“Things I’ll Love to Celebrate in February 2016” by Linda Martin Andersen
“A Writer’s Playground”–A place to find wordplay, writing, and monthly calendar activities for kids and those young at heart.”
Valentine’s Day is a special day on this month’s calendar. I chose not to include it simply because it is so well known. February 14 is also International Book Giving Day. Why not consider giving a book instead of a Valentine to someone special?
I hope something listed here will catch your attention and be added to your February calendar. Perhaps you’d like to send a Valentine, thank you card, or missing you card to friends during International Friendship Week, or read cowboy poetry and haikus and write a few yourself. Could you reach out to a school counselor, an author, or illustrator? Make February special by finding new ways to celebrate.
What special things do you have planned for this month? I’d love to hear about them.
Writing Prompts:
- If you chose to give a book to someone this month, which would it be and why?
- Do you ever swap books with friends? What type books do you usually swap? Have you found a favorite author by swapping with someone else?
- What would you rather write: cowboy poems or haikus? Why? Try writing one.
Thank you for visiting “A Writer’s Playground.” Come again soon and bring a friend. Please leave a comment. I’d love to hear what special things you have planned for this month. Remember that children 13 and under need an adult to comment for them. For more fun, sign up to follow my blog. Thank you!

Ah, you know what types of books I giveaway because you see them all the time! Well-written mg or YA. Hooray for Children’s Authors and Illustrator’s week. Didn’t even know there was something like that!

Carol,
You are good about promoting children’s authors and giving away children’s books. You have given away some wonderful MG and YA books. You also gave away a picture book recently. I’m glad I introduced you to a special week for Children’s authors and illustrators. Special indeed! Keep writing great blog posts and giving away children’s books. It’s a winning combination.

Dear Linda,
Thanks for writing your post about things to celebrate during February. It’s a good idea to celebrate books. My bookshelves are filled with mostly non-fiction writing craft books.
I love to share fiction books I’ve read with others so they can read and then share with someone else.
Enjoy your day,
Joan

Joan, you are kind to share your fiction books after reading them. I know you also share some NF writing craft books. I’ve gotten a care package of them myself. You have a generous heart. I’m glad you enjoyed the list of things to celebrate during February. Celebrate every day.

Mary and I have given many books away over the years. The biggest was several years ago we donated 700 books to local 4th graders at the Sierra Logging Conference Education Day. It wasn’t the best business decision, but the education benefit was huge. We have people tell us all the time, “hey, I have your book!”

Tim, you and Mary have hearts bigger than any sold on Valentine’s. Thanks for sharing your wonderful story of giving 700 books to 4th graders! Gather them up into a heart shape and the outline might come close the size of your hearts! I’m not sure how that works with the size of your anatomies, but I am convinced it does.

Linda sometimes you leave me speechless. 💐

Since you’re speechless, I’ll fill in. I’m shouting, “Timber!” in honor of your upcoming book!
