A Writer’s Playground–a place to find wordplay, writing prompts, reasons to celebrate, and monthly calendar activities for kids and those young at heart  “Happy Birthday, Blog” by Linda Martin Andersen

My blog’s name is “A Writer’s Playground,” but he recently informed me that he prefers to be called Blog.  Today, is all about Blog.

Here is how Blog has celebrated each birthday: (Archived here, like any proud Mama would do.)

Blog’s first birthday–May 2013:

Blog’s second birthday–May 2014

Blog’s third birthday–May 2015

What does Blog want for his 4th birthday?

Blog wants to tell all about his adventures and he wants to start at the beginning.

(so I’ll help)

In 2012, my good friend, Joan Y. Edwards, helped me set up Blog which I named “A Writer’s Playground.”  I thank her for that!  Blog thanks her too!  Without her, he wouldn’t exist.  And now, it’s Joan’s turn to receive some help.  On May 13, 2016  some of Joan’s followers will participate in a Blog Blitz for her new book:  Joan’s Elder Care Guide: Empowering You and Your Elder to Survive. I’m excited; so I know she has to be!

Blog wants to tell about his growing pains.

Blog has decided to change things up a bit.  Since May 2012, Blog has begun each calendar month with a list of ways to celebrate special days.

Blog will no longer provide a list of calendar events on the first of each month.  Resources for monthly calendar events are available in many places.  See some examples here:

Recommended lists of monthly calendar events:

  1. Chase’s Calendar of Events 2016: The Ultimate Go-to Guide for Special Days, Weeks and Months– a resource available to use on site at many public libraries.
  2. http://www.brownielocks.com/may.html
  3. http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/us/
  4. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/
  5. Search Archives at this site.  Search by key words.  A good place to start would be with the name of the month.

Blog wishes to add more flexibility to his posts to provide his voice (that’s me) with more time for writing stories and books, while encouraging followers to search out their own monthly activities.  Please provide feedback so Blog knows how that’s going for you.

One example of  Blog’s recent growth:  In 2016, “A Writer’s Playground” participated in two blogging challenges. ” Just Jot It January” and in April:  “A-Z Blogging Challenge.”  Blog has visited many blogs unknown to him and has gained some new followers.  Will Blog decide to do more blog challenges in the future?  Wait and see.

Thanks for playing along with me as Blog continues to grow.  Maybe next year Blog will be old enough to start school.  😉

Thank you for visiting “A Writer’s Playground.”  Come again soon and bring a friend. Please leave a comment.  Remember that children 13 and under need an adult to comment for them.  For more fun, sign up to follow my blog.  Thank you!

Congratulations on your birthday! Well done!!

  2. Happy blogiversary!

  3. Happy Anniversary, Blog. You have a much more committed and encouraging creator than Sarah’s Blog, who keeps whining in Sarah’s ear to write more blogs. Anyway, enjoy the thought of your creator eating cake and ice cream for you.

    • Sarah,
Thanks for your kind words. Blog may not always agree with your assessment of me being committed and encouraging, however. Yes, Blog is okay with me eating for him. He’d rather be heard than eat. 😉 I think I feel like that sometimes, but the feeling passes quickly!

    Dear Linda,
Thanks for sharing information about Joan’s Elder Care Guide: Empowering You and Your Elder to Survive on your blog’s 4th Birthday. What an honor! Your blog is excited to have been with you 4 years. Each year you’ve added fun celebrations for all of your readers. Thank you for being my friend an sharing my life’s journey, my ups and downs, and especially my writing triumphs. As we see your blog change and transform., we know it will still be fun, fun, fun because that is your way! You are the perfect embodiment of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love you,

    Never Give Up
    Change is good.

    • Joan,
You are welcome for my endorsement and Blog’s. We want to spread the word of your latest book, designed to help many! It is my pleasure to spend time with you on your writing and life journey. I’m glad you share in mine as well. Thanks for the vote of confidence in the blog changes to come. I want to keep it fun for readers and for me. Happy book sales!

  5. Happy 4th Anniversary ! ☺

  6. Happy Birthday. I think you need to come up with a name for your Blog. More than just Blog. When you have nothing else to do (ha, ha!). Bob the Blog? Make him blow out the candles!

    • Blog seems happy with his nickname. After all, he chose it. “A Writer’s Playground” wasn’t right for him, but he knows his writer likes that one. I will ask him if he wants to add to his nickname. He’s become very vocal lately. He’ll let me know. We didn’t have cake for this year’s birthday, but he may want one for another occasion. I’ll see. Thanks for playing along, Carol.

Hi Linda and blog, congratulations!!!!! Do your blogging plans mean you write more stories on here? That would be great. I’d love to read your stories 🙂

    • Bee,
Thanks for your enthusiasm about the possibility of more stories. I don’t usually post fully developed stories here, mostly anecdotes. I prefer to send stories to publishers. Thanks for giving me something to think about though. Perhaps I could do something along these lines, just for fun. Anything’s possible in the blogging world.

  8. Oh, how I love birthdays! So happy birthday, Mr. Blog. You have treated your Mrs. exceedingly well. Your writing playground has been fun to roll around in. And, now to you, dear, Linda. Congrats on keeping up your blog for 3 years. And I am SO EXCITED TO HEAR THAT YOU’RE FEATURING JOAN (who helped you choose your blog name). Can’t wait to read and share your post. Like I told, Joan, I love her BEAMING SMILE and just look at all the copies of her NEW BOOK! Hip-hip-hooray! Love you both! 🙂

    • Tracy,
Thanks for the birthday wishes and congratulations for Joan. It is great to be celebrating both at the same time. Thanks for your faithful following, Tracy! I appreciate you.
