Just for fun, I’m hosting a virtual blog birthday party for the remainder of May 2015.   If you are a writer (13+years) and you’d like to attend, please do.

No RSVPs necessary.  Instead…

  1.  In the comment section below, please describe your selected virtual mode of transportation and tell how it relates to your writing.  For example:  My name is Linda Martin Andersen and my current picture book manuscript includes some wild animals (stuffed); therefore, I will arrive at  the party on elephant’s back.
  2. If you have published books, please provide a link to your website or book list in the comment section.  Other guests can visit your sites and select topics for socializing with you.
  3. Check back here throughout the month of May and comment with others who are attending the party.  For example:  I am guessing that Laura Purdie Salas might arrive at the party on a floating leaf.  Why?  Because one of her picture books is called, A Leaf Can.  If she chooses some other mode of transportation, I could chat with her about that. No need to feel like a wallflower at this party.  Too much to talk about.

Earlier this month, I interviewed Laura Purdie Salas.  See here:  https://lindamartinandersen.wordpress.com/2015/05/02/an-interview-with-laura-purdie-salas-short-and-sweet-giveaway-too/

I hope you’ll visit, if you missed it earlier.  The book giveaway is still available!  Check out the sample listing of Laura Purdie Salas’ book titles below.  I purchased one of them.  Which one?

     4.  Choose one book title from this list.  Name your choice in the comment section here or on the earlier interview with Laura Purdie Salas.  Good luck.

Titles which have been guessed are crossed off the list.   I am opening the contest to anyone interested, even if you’ve already guessed a title.  The first person to name the book, wins it.  Entry is due by May 31, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. (EST)   If no one has named the correct title by the deadline, I will conduct a random drawing for a winner.

Title #1:  Colors of Weather (Colors All Around)

Title #2:  A Leaf Can Be . . .

Title #3:  Water Can Be . . .

Title #4:  A Rock Can Be…

Title #5:  BookSpeak!: Poems About Books

Title #6:  Stampede!: Poems to Celebrate the Wild Side of School

Dear Linda, Thank you for inviting us to your virtual birthday party. It is my pleasure to come on Mr. Bear’s back from my book, Flip Flap Floodle. He was in a hurry, hurry, hurry, but he took time to take me here to be with you. Thank you, Mr. Bear! Happy Birthday to you personally and to your blog.

    • Joan,
I hope you and Mr. Bear arrive soon. Pinky, the Elephant would like to hear more about what Flip Flap Floodle has been up to since he had a book written about him.

Thanks for playing along. I wondered if you’d arrive in the Floodle mobile or maybe in a little red wagon. I never thought about a bear ride. How fun! I’m glad you could make it to the virtual blog birthday party.

        Dear Linda,
Mr. Bear decided to stay so that he can carry me back home when the party’s over. What time is the party over? He’s having a great time. He and Mr. Elephant are sharing stories about their adventures with people.

        Love, Joan

  2. Dear Linda,
Thank you for inviting us all to your virtual birthday party. I came here with my character, Carolyn Samuels from my book If I Could Be Like Jennifer Taylor with her friend/bully Jennifer Taylor in Jennifer’s boyfriend’s car. Brad has this cool BMW and we all had a great time getting here. Though Carolyn and Jennifer barely spoke except for Jennifer to turn around and say “Breathe, Carolyn, breathe” every few minutes.

Jennifer doesn’t eat cake, but Carolyn and Brad and I are looking forward to it.

    May your dreams come true!
    Barbara

    • Barbara,
So glad you could join the party. It sounds like you’re coming with a car full of charcters in Brad’s BMW. Happy to hear you’re writing a sequel to If I Could Be Like Jennifer Taylor and have a book about personal experiences as well.

If you’d like a chance to win the book giveaway, please comment with a title from the list on this blog and you may win.

Please invite other writer friends to the party. Spread the word. Thanks!

  3. I think I want a van that can carry bikes on the back but has wings like an airplane. Wonder where I’ve been the last 3 weeks!

    • Carol,
You can achieve this. Believe it and you can travel in it to the virtual blog party. Afterwards, please transfer your design and experience to paper for future manuscripts.

I’m glad your travels took you to so many wonderful places, Carol!

You are free to choose another book title if you’d wish. I’ve opened the book giveaway to anyone for another try.

  4. Hi Linda, I’m late for your party. I believe you purchased: Title #12: C Is for Cake!: A Birthday Alphabet (Alphabet Fun) (A+ Books: Alphabet Fun)??
Lately, I’ve put down my pen and taken up my coloring markers, so no book character today. 🙂

    • Tracy,
That’s a great book title for a birthday party, but not the one I purchased. If the title isn’t guessed by the cutoff, you’ll be entered in a random drawing.

I am imagining you arriving here on Matilda, your lovely muse and assistant. A butterfly like no other. Keep creating with those coloring markers. Thanks for visiting my blog’s virtual birthday party! So nice to have you here.

  5. You make me smile, Linda. 🙂

  6. Happy Anniversary Ms. Linda. Your blog is enchanting and you’re so inspiring with your commitment to post so regularly. I need to get back at it.
My name is Sarah Maury Swan and I’m riding into your party on my splashy, orange and white Pinto dancing to the tunes of Alison Kraus. Lots of my stories feature horses, including my MG novel, “Emily’s Ride to Courage,” which I hope to publish this fall. Hear a country fiddle playing a jig in 2/4 time and picture a small horse, with an orange (sorrel) body, white legs and belly, white peeking up his barrel by his left front leg and right back leg and a broad streak of white running down his nose. His mane and tail are mostly blond, but with a splash of orange and are very thick. His back is strong and arched slightly up to support me,his rider. His hind legs are reaching so far under himself I can feel them hit the ground under my seat and his front legs are stretched so far past his should I can see the lower part of them as they get ready to land. His neck is arched up and his nose is almost perpendicular to the ground. His ears are perked up, but swiveled back toward me, to show he’s listening to my commands. When we come to the edge of your living room, at my command, we stop squarely and I drop my left hand to my side to salute you. Love, Sarah

    • Dear Sarah,
What could be better than a orange and white pinto being ridden by you, with country fiddle music playing, as you salute me in my living room. I’m glad I don’t have to try to top this one!

Best of luck to you, Sarah, with MG novel, “Emily’s Ride to Courage.” I hope you do land that publishing deal this fall. That would be something to celebrate big time.

Thanks so much for joining the virtual birthday blog celebration.

  7. Oops, I should have edited my post before I sent it. He’s doing an extended trot and I can see his front legs past his shoulder line. Love, Sarah

Linda, Happy Three Year Blog Birthday!!!! Well, I would float in to your party on a very large cherry blossom 🙂 So happy to have you as a friend and so grateful for all that I learn for you and your blog! Love you!

    • Kathy,
Thanks for the birthday wishes for my blog. I love your flotation device. Elegant and symbolic! Thanks for the big compliment about my blog. Sweet of you.

Would you like to guess a book title for the book giveaway? I’m open to another round of guesses. You in?

Happy Blog Birthday, Linda!!! I will join in your party! I am writing a picture book about a pirate, so my transportation of choice would be a pirate ship. I do not have a book out yet, but I have a blog at http://www.beckyshillington.blogspot.com. I chose title #6 already–Stampede! Poems to Celebrate the Wild Side of School! All of the books sound wonderful!

    • Becky,
Thanks for joining the birthday blog celebration. I can’t wait to explore your pirate ship and hear all the adventures along your journey. What will you eat? How far can you travel in a day? Can your pirate ship fly or only travel by water? Who are your crew mates? Were you the captain? Oh, this is going to be a fun conversation.

I hate to have to tell you, but #6 isn’t the title I purchased. If the correct title isn’t guessed by the end of the month, your name will be entered in a random drawing. Good luck.

Thanks so much for joining the party. I am excited about learning more about your pirate book and travels.
